Explore God . . .

I read an interesting article this morning, entitled “Explore God.” It grabbed my attention, to say the least.

The article was a true story about a church that planned a huge evangelism outreach program with the caption, “Explore God.” The title was very appropriate as it was an invitation for people to come and learn about God.

In the article the author told how, for the first three weeks, the seven-week project bombed due to a series of very severe weather conditions in the area. People in the church were discouraged. They felt the Lord wasn’t with them. But then, after a day of fasting and prayer, things began to change.

The huge success the church had envisioned when they planned the project did not happen—the church was not inundated with a huge crowd seeking to learn about God—but they saw God’s hand at work in those who did come.

One couple was especially high-lighted . . . A man and his wife who were unchurched, read about the project, were intrigued by the words “Explore God,” and came to do just that. They joined the church and became actively involved. And there were others.

As most of us do, when we read about something, we immediately begin to seek the relationship of what we’re reading about to our own life.

And, of course, I had to apply all of this to my own experience, and the conclusion I’ve reached—I’ve been exploring God all of my life.

I remember hearing my parents talk about God when I was very young, even before I started to school, and I wondered about Him. Then after I learned to read, books were very few in our house, but we had a Bible, and I could enjoy some of the stories there.

And then my mother saw that I went to church in those early years, and I’ve been learning about God ever since.

Today, God is more real than ever before. And yet, as I listen to sermons, read other’s stories of how God has worked in their lives, read my Bible and spend time with Him in prayer each day—and see Him at work in my life—I’m continuously gaining new insights about Him.

Explore God. He is real.

Grace and peace to you,

Mary Emma
