9/11/2001. . . Remembering

It was a beautiful September day, sunny, warm, but not too warm; and the sky was a gorgeous blue. I was getting ready to leave and drive across town for the Christian Women’s Club Luncheon when my husband called, “Mary Emma, come and look!”

He was watching the morning news, and it was a little before 9:00 o’clock. I hurried out to the family room and was horrified at what I saw. Smoke and flames billowed from one of the twin towers in New York City, and people were jumping to their deaths as soot and ashes filled the air. I watched as the second plane struck the other tower, and the towers collapsed. Scenes such as this, you don’t forget.

Tonight I watched a movie of the last survivor pulled from the rubble of the fallen towers on 9/11. The movie brought it all back . . . the horror, the terror, the anxiety and worry, the sadness I felt for those who lost loved ones.

Jonathan Cahn, (well-known rabbi, teacher and author), in his book, The Harbinger (p. 29), says 9/11 was a warning for America. He says it was a sign that God has removed his protection . . . for we, as a nation, have turned away from God. We don’t have to look very far to see the truth in this statement.

I am appalled at some of the things I see happening in our nation today. Crime is rampant, violent criminals roam our streets, thieves are allowed to openly loot and rob our stores and shops; dangerous drugs are being legalized; our children are being victimized, abused, trafficked, and taught to hate; sexual perversion and immorality are celebrated.

As we remember 9/11 and all the horror of that day, I pray we heed the warnings we have been given, whether from Jonathan Cahn (and others)—or from God—of our need to turn back to God, individually, and as a nation. And, I pray, let it begin with me.
