Sometimes It Takes a Fall . . .

Ouch! It all happened so quickly! I was getting out of bed to turn off my alarm, and then . . . whoosh! The next thing I knew I was hitting the floor. I can still feel the pain of the impact when my head hit the floor!

That was three weeks ago. My black eye has returned to normal, but my forehead is still sore from the bang it took. I was lucky, though; I survived, and nothing was broken. That’s always reason to be thankful!

We have to learn from our misfortunes . . . and it seems . . . sometimes it takes a fall. Now, I’m being much more careful about rushing out of bed to turn off an alarm! But—I also learned how kind people can be.

I spent that day in the emergency department in our local hospital, where I was treated with kindness and compassion from everyone. Even other patients . . .

As I was waiting to be x-rayed, there was another lady there,
whom I didn’t know. She looked at me and said, “Did you fall,
Honey?” I truly appreciated the kindness in her voice.

Later, a young lady, a perfect stranger also, who was pushing a
gentleman in a wheelchair, stopped and said, “I hope you get to
feeling better.” I could see compassion in her eyes.

We hear so often about the bad things that happen all around us, (from the newspapers, television, radio, etc.), we forget how kind people can be. I will not forget that young lady pushing the wheelchair, and the lady in the x-ray waiting room. Nor will I forget . . . all who touched my heart that day with kindness.

An anxious heart weighs a man down,
but a kind word cheers him up. (Proverbs 12:25)

Grace and peace to you,
Mary Emma
