One Nation, Under God (Part 2)
I have just participated in a wonderful writer’s conference . . . the WHA (Write His Answer) 2026 Christian Writers’ Conference, June 17- June 20. It’s an annual conference; Marlene Bagnull is coordinator and director. This conference is not only excellent for learning and improving one’s writing skills, but also a great source of spiritual refreshment and encouragement.
And, as you might expect, for those of us who are participants, the focus is on God and His plans for each of us who are called to write.
One phrase I heard over and over at this year’s conference was:
for such a time as this . . .
Provocative words! Those words obviously refer to the culture we’re living in. And since we’re Christian writers, called to write, we were urged to first seek the Lord’s guidance as to what He would have us write—in relation to the world and the time in which we live.
For those of us who are older, the changes in the world in which we live are more obvious. Just to name a few: marriage was only between a man and a woman; prayer was allowed in school; pregnancy outside of marriage carried a heavy social stigma; and God—and His commandments—were held as sacred.
There are many changes I do not wish to get into, but I think the most significant change has been the country’s move away from God. Recently, there seems to have been some movement toward becoming once again “one nation, under God,” but I still see many opposing factors.
As we celebrate America’s 250th anniversary, now is a good time to reflect upon our history . . . what we were . . . and what we are becoming . . .
I pray we will always be “one nation, under God.”
Grace and peace to you,
Mary Emma
