Have you noticed . . . ?

I’ve always loved this portion of a verse of Scripture from I Chronicles, chapter 20, verse 1, in the Bible, which says:

In the spring, at the time when kings go off to war . . .

I love the beauty of the expression. These words tell us that it was in spring that kings fought their battles in Biblical days. But, they also paint pictures in my mind. I see images of kings in royal robes, with their chariots and horses all lined up, out on the field . . . with spring in full bloom all around.

Words are powerful. The words we speak, or write, can stir our emotions and evoke a variety of feelings. They can make us happy, sad, angry, upset, afraid, disturbed, pensive, excited, and on and on.

But, have you noticed? Words aren’t always necessary.

Spring, with all its beauty, speaks. Not in words, but in the essence of what it is . . . a time for new life, new beginnings, new hope, a cause for enjoyment and appreciation of the beauty around us. Spring speaks to the glory of God.

When I open my drapes in the morning and see the magnificent greenery all around, mingled with the colorful flowers that bloom in the spring . . . cast against a backdrop of a clear blue sky . . . I cannot help but be thrilled at the beauty of the earth, and offer a prayer of praise to our loving Creator, Almighty God.

In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth . . . Genesis 1:1.

He surely did.

And then he placed man and woman here in the midst of His creation. To live, to grow, to be nourished, to find enjoyment—providing for all of our needs. And, He gave us spring.

Be sure to notice, and listen, to the voice of spring. And join with me in praise for our Creator, Almighty God.

Grace and peace to you,
Mary Emma
