speaking of words . . .
Words are so powerful. We can break someone’s heart . . . with just one word, or two. Or we can “make someone’s day”. . . with just one word, or two. It only takes a word or two to push us down into the realm of depression. On the other hand, just a word or two can lift our spirits, and make us feel like singing. Words can also be the catalyst to drive us onto the road of exploration and discovery.
Yes, words have power.
I have a new phone, one of those smart ones, which I am struggling to learn how to use. And now, it is telling me it wants to learn to recognize my voice . . .
When I was a child, if someone had told me I would one day have a phone sending me messages such as this, I would not have believed them. If I remember correctly, we did not have a phone in our home until I was in high school. It was a dial phone, as were most phones in those days.
We live in the age of the internet and modern technology, which demands, I suppose, that we accept it and conform to it. The problem is, modern technology keeps changing, and the change is so rapid, it seems we only adapt to one method or machine, when a new one comes along.
Nevertheless, I have no desire to comply with my phone . . . and help this little lump of metal and electrons learn to recognize my voice. I suppose I just don’t want to give this small machine this power.
Speaking of words, and their power, we have the most important—and the most powerful—words of all in the Bible. God’s Word. He never changes.
And He doesn’t have to learn how to recognize my voice!
Grace and peace to you,
Mary Emma
